This January we invited our members and their family and friends to join us for a January Fitness Challenge! The plan was to provide a challenge that would help to motivate everyone through the cold and gloomy month of the January lockdown, help them to keep fit, have some fun and at the same time, raise some vital funds for the Support Group.
Everyone was invited to set their own target of how many miles they would like to achieve by walking, running or cycling. The challenge was open to all, whatever their age, ability, level of fitness, or size of their personal target. The hope was that this would result in a total accumulation of miles that would be the equivalent distance of 350 miles, the distance to Paris and beyond.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who accepted the challenge and put on their walking boots, trainers and cycle gear and got out there to cover the miles!
The original target was 350 miles, but in the end an amazing 3,418 miles was achieved! Taking us nearly all the way to New York!!
Families covered anything from 98.5 miles to 671.5 miles! What an achievement for every single person and what a great way to get through the tough month of January 2021!
The efforts of all our amazing families and their friends and family, have raised a wonderful £1,376!
Vital funds which will help us to continue to provide services and activities for our families. Obviously a huge number of our activities in 2020 and 2021 have had to be postponed due to the covid pandemic. However, we have still managed to continue sessions online for our Teen Club, Young Adult Group, and Dance Class, as well as providing for our families with an online Christmas Party, Family Quizzes and an entertainment session from Magic Dave and also workshops for Education professionals.
If you would like to make a donation to help us to continue to support our many families, please click on the link below. All donations are very gratefully received. Thank you
We would like to say an enormous thank you to every single person that took part, we really appreciate your time, effort and commitment to the challenge.
We would also like to say special thanks to Jenny Asbury , who thought of this fantastic idea and collated all the miles completed.
This event has been such a great start to 2021 and the new year, and a lot of fun for all our families involved, so we hope to set the challenge again for next January – so why not get training now!!
